Eric Raymond entra nel Freespire Leadership Board: " Eric Raymond, cofondatore del movimento open source e dell'OSI, da oggi è un membro effettivo della Freespire Leadership Board. Insieme agli altri componenti del board, che annovera nomi del calibro di Ian Murdock, Raymond avrà il compito di prendere decisioni importanti sul futuro della distribuzione.
La scelta di unirsi al progetto di Carmony, il ceo di Linspire, sembra sia stata motivata dalla convinzione di Raymond che l'unico modo per vincere la battaglia con Windows sia sul terreno desktop. Ecco in proposito che cosa ha dichiarato Carmony: 'Eric has a keen interest in seeing desktop Linux become more workable with the necessary codices and drivers, and he sees Freespire as a good launching off place for an ideal he and the Freespire community both share; getting desktop Linux to just work, even if that means providing the option of proprietary codices in those cases where there are not yet viable open source alternatives'.
